Acoustic Electric Guitars
Are acoustic electric guitars a good choice for a beginner? Actually they are, an acoustic electric guitar such as the fender cd60ce acoustic dreadnought cutaway electro acoustic guitar is an excellent choice for any beginner, easy to play out of the box, built in tuner and well made so that it won't be too harsh on the finger tips for anyone just starting out.
Why an Acoustic Electric Guitar?
For anyone starting out, buying an acoustic guitar is the obvious choice, electric guitars are slightly more complex for a beginner guitarist and usually more expensive too. The problem is that most players who buy an acoustic will soon start looking into electric guitars and the solution for anyone who cannot decide which to buy is to get an electro acoustic. This gives the benefit of learning to play an acoustic guitar but with the option to purchase an amplifier in the future to plug their acoustic in and try it out.
One of the main differences is the style of play, an acoustic guitar is great for blues and soft music but when you want to get a little louder and play some rock you need to get plugged in! The versatility of an acoustic electric guitar means you can play a wider range of music from different genres without having to buy more than one guitar, of course it wont be ideal for heavy metal, for that you really need an electric guitar to get the best sounds but the electro acoustic is a good option for playing rock tunes, grunge, blues and so on.
For a decent acoustic guitar you can expect to pay between $100 and $200 and acoustic electric guitar should cost in or around $200 on average which makes it an affordable option. Anyone who wants to perform acoustically will benefit from an electric acoustic model.

Which Acoustic Electric Guitar Should You Buy?
When it comes to guitars, quality and brand do go together and to a certain extent you do get what you pay for, you can pick up cheap guitars almost anywhere nowadays but the quality is just not the same and for a beginner with sensitive fingertips it can be pretty painfull to play as well as a chore to keep in tune.
My recommendations for acoustic electric guitars are any of the well known models from well known brands such as Fender and Ibanez. These two guitar manafacturers have a reputation for producing quality instruments and the price is not too expensive. If you are looking for a great quality acoustic electric fender guitar then the Fender CD60-CE is a great model, see below for details and from Ibanez a really great choice for a beginner is the Ibanez

Hi Laura,
I agree with you about the Ibanez..it has a really nice tone. ..also the Tanglewood TW28 is great for beginners. I didn't opt for an electric/acoustic but I kind of wish I had.
