Money Saving Tips for the Home
There are a lot of ways that you can start to make reductions in spending around the home, but the first thing you need to do is accept that these changes need to be made and if you really want to cut your expenses then you may need to make some small sacrifices for your household. You need to look at what your biggest daily expenses are that can be reduced and work on them first.
Below are some quick and easy money saving tips that in the long run could save you a lot of money.
- Switch your cell phone plan and reduce your calls, even consider switching to a credit top up rather than a bill phone if you have one. Cell phones are so easy and convenient it is really easy to overspend in this area, so if you can at all, reduce your calls package and monthly spending.
- Make grocery shopping lists and stick to them, its easy to run to the store several times a week when you run out of something but this can work out a really expensive habit because it is difficult not to pick up other unessential items as you go around, if you do a weekly shopping trip for your groceries and use a list, you are less likely to need to make any extra trips and in the long run your grocery spending will be much less and if you drive to the shop then you are also cutting your gas bill.
- Shop around, many of us shop at the stores we shop at out of habit but it can really pay off to shop around for bargains, it may take a little more time but is well worth a try to see if the items you usually buy are less expensive somewhere else.
- Wants and needs, do I need this? this is a questions that we should all ask ourselves before we consider making a purchase, impulse buying can end us costing us a lot and leaving us with a lot of items that we may never use.
- Clear out the clutter, all of those items you have gathered over the years that have never really been used could be worth something to you after all, there are many ways that you can sell off the items you no longer or never have used, you can sell online on ebay or even have a garage sale.
- Join a library, if you like to read then it may seem cheap to pick up a paperback but have you considered joining a library and borrowing books, there is always a huge selection so you are sure to find something you want to read and you are saving money in doing so.
- Cut down on dvd rentals and digital television packages, most people have way more television channels than they ever watch, so if you are one of these people try cutting down on your subscription plan. It may not be much but it all adds up and can save you a lot of money over time.
- Shop online, similarly to shopping around, do your research and find the best deals online, you can do your grocery shopping online and you may be surprised to find that you can make big savings this way, plus if your chosen store offers free delivery then you save on gas too!
- Say no to extra spending, if you are a parent then it can be hard to say no to your children and it may only be a little treat here and there but you need to consider your budget before you buy their very favorite must have cereal or magazine, it has to fall under the do they need it category again, it may seem harsh but in most cases you know that they don't really need it at all!
The above money saving tips are really simple to start and are not huge sacrifices to make when it comes to household budgeting, you don't need to cut all your expenses just decide which ones are a priority and which are not. It may not seem like much to save a few dollars here and there but they do add up and that extra cash will then hopefully be there for when you really need it. Look around your home, what changes can you make today to help reduce your monthly outgoings? Are you paying more for the household services you use than you need to? will changing to a different provider make a difference?
There are a lot of ways to save money in the home you just need to figure out what you can do without, what you rarely use and what you actually need and remember to ask yourself before each purchase, do I really need this?

Some great tips. I know I tend to overlook things 'cause on their own, they seem to be such small things, but start adding up and it's amazing how they really can make a difference! Of those mentioned, the 2 that have really worked for me were the weekly shopping trips..I have an incredible ability for finding extras I "need" when I only go in for 2 items! The other was switching to Straight Talk prepaid. Because I use my phone a lot, I went for the unlimited minutes, texts and web ($45) and have not had to curb my texts or talking at all, but get it at a considerable saving in comparison to when I was stuck in a contract. These 2 tips alone have saved me and I think it's time to incorporate some more of your ideas.
