Ed Hardy Jeans

Invented by Don Ed Hardy and designed by Christian Audigier the range has become known for its sophistication and amazing imagery. The unique designs of the Ed Hardy denim line are influenced by tattoo designs, the American and Japanese cultures and more.  The different factors that influence the designs have created an eclectic range that has been described as both brilliant in its use of colors as well as inventive and imaginative. 

Don Ed Hardy was born in 1945 in Newport Beach, California, he became a student in the San Francisco Art Institute and there he graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in printmaking. Because Ed Hardy was a student of the famous American tattoo artist, Sailor Jerry Colllins, he had the opportunity to study tattooing in Japan in 1973 under the classical Japanese tattoo master, Horihide. Don Ed Hardy later became famous for using this Japanese tattoo technique and style in his American tattoo designs.

Today Ed Hardy has retired from tattooing but his designs are more famous today than ever. In 2004, Christian Audigier licensed the rights to produce the Ed Hardy clothing line, which uses many of his imagery and designs. Before this Christian Audiger was the head of design at the Von Dutch Originals clothing line, where it was marketed directly to celebrities. Audigier also used this method in the marketing of Ed Hardy Jeans.

The Ed Hardy range has expanded over the years to incorporate many other fashion and clothing items such as hats, t-shirts, scarves, jackets, hoodies, underwear, scarves, dresses, gloves and socks. They all feature many of his images such as retro skulls, flying eagles, eastern style dragons and snakes while using a variety of materials, such as rhinestones and glass fabrics, and also many of the tattoo styler ink colors. One of Ed Hardy's biggest selling designs is that of the "Love kills Slowly" image. Ed Hardy has many ranges also which include the newer additions of the "Neon" range and also the Platininum" range. The Ed Hardy range has become a global success and while it is still based in America two of its biggest importers are Germany and Dubai.
