Bejeweled Blitz Tips and Hints and Rare Gems

Bejeweled is a game which has been around for many years since it was first released and since then has become very popular. Bejeweled is a casual game where you try and get the highest possible score by switching gems in a grid to form lines of matching gems of three or more. Bejeweled has been released on nearly every format there is and is very popular as a game on mobile phones and especially on Facebook, which has the bonus of you being able to try and beat your friends scores each week.

This Hub will focus on the Bejeweled Blitz which is available to play free on the social networking site Facebook. Bejeweled Blitz is different from other versions of the game as you only have a minute in which to get the highest possible score. Other differences in this are that multipliers drop into the grid during game play and also that there are speed bonuses.

In Bejeweled Blitz you can earn star medals which will be shown in the news feed of your friends if you are playing on Facebook. This makes the game all the more enjoyable as you try to beat your friends by getting the highest score and therefore top of the leader board.

As well as the regular gems in Bejeweled Blitz there are other gems that will enable you to achieve higher scores, here is a list of these gems and their abilities:

Fire Gems These are created when you match and destroy four gems in a row, they will appear as the same type of gem as you matched but they will stand out because they glow. When you use this fire gem in a new match it will explode all the gems next to it, nine in total.

Star Gems These are created when you match and destroy a row of three gems in two directions like an L shape. When it is created it will be the same type gem as the ones it was created from except it will have an even brighter glow than the fire gems. When this is used in a new match it will destroy all the gems horizontally and vertically from it, in a cross.

Hyper Cubes These special gems are created when you match a line of five of the same gems. Unlike other special gems these do not need to be used in a new match of three similar gems to be used, they can simply be swapped with any gem that is next to them. Once you swap them with any gem it will destroy all gems of that type on the grid and you will also get a multiplier.

Multiplier Gems These gems are created when at least twelve gems are destroyed with the swapping of one gem, for example if you destroy three gems those that fall into their place can also make matches and so can also be destroyed by the swapping of the first gem. To be used, multiplier gems must be used in a match of at least three gems and when they are used they will make scores be multiplied by their number. The first multiplier gem you will be able to get will be the 2 multiplier where all the points you receive will be doubled, the next in the same game will be the 3 multiplier where all points will be trebled and so forth.

As well as the special gems that can be got through playing each level there are also boosts that can be purchased before each game, these boosts are purchased with coins that you earn through playing games. The more points you earn each level, the more coins you will earn for that level and these you can save up to buy boosts at some point. When you buy any of the boosts they are usable for three games and you can use up to three different types of boost per level.

Mystery Gem For six thousand coins you can purchase the Mystery Gem boost before a game. The Mystery Gem boost as the name suggests gives you a mystery special gem at the start of each game whether it is a fire gem, a star gem or a hyper cube.

Detonator The Detonator boost costs three thousand coins and will be located at the bottom left hand corner of the grid. When you use the Detonator, by clicking on it, it will set off all of the special gems as well as multipliers that are on the grid. The Detonator can only be used once per game.

Scrambler The Scrambler boost costs four thousand coins and will be located at the bottom right hand corner of the grid. If you are stuck at any point during a game and don't want to lose any valuable time , you can use this boost by clicking on it and it will scramble all of the gems on the grid and can lead to setting off matches and destroying gems. This boost can be used twice per game.

+ 5 Seconds As the name suggests, this boost gives you an extra five seconds onto the minute you have, this boost costs four and a half thousand coins.

Bonus Multiplier This boost costs seven and a half thousand coins and will give you a multiplier on the grid at the start of the game, this means you are more likely to get a higher multiplier count by the end of the game.

Rare Gems are only available to buy randomly and don't appear very often. When you click to play again it will be then that the rare gem will appear. These gems, like the boosts, cost coins so you will need enough coins saved to purchase them. The benefits of the rare gems are only available for one game so use wisely.

Moon Stone This rare gem will cost you 10,000 coins to buy. The Moon Stone gives you three Star Gems at the start of the game which will help boost your score and set off multipliers.

Cats Eye The Cats Eye Gem when available costs 35,000 coins to buy. When you use this gem your game will go on as usual until your time is up, at this point a cats head will appear to the side of the grid accompanied by a sliding guitar sound. When this happens the cat will blast almost all the gems on the grid with the added bonus of multiplying whatever multiplier you are on by three, so if you are on 5 it will rise to 15.

1. Speed is the key to getting high scores in Bejeweled Blitz, when you start to play fast you will get increasing speed bonuses until it peaks at 1000 points. When it reaches 1000 points it will remain at this for a short time but if you keep the fast rate of play up, you will hear a crackling sound this means you are approaching blazing speed. Blazing speed is a bonus period in the game and in this every match of gems you make will explode and give you extra points. Also playing at a fast pace is far more likely to give you special gems and multipliers. A good tip for getting faster at matching gems is when you make a match, before it is even completed look to a different part of the board that won't be affected and find a new match there. Repeating this will make you play very fast.
2. Rare Gems are very helpful in reaching the really high scores, it is a good idea to save up coins over a period until you have 50 or 60,000. With this amount of money in your balance when the opportunity comes to purchase a rare gem, you can combine this with three other boosts that you can purchase. This combination will lead to massive scores if the level goes well for you.
3. It is a good idea to always try and make Hyper Cubes by making matches of five gems in a row. As Hyper Cubes will destroy all the gems of the kind you choose, it is a good idea to take a second and assess which type gem features most on the board as the more gems you destroy, the more points you get.
4. When the game is beginning and before the minute begins you can start matching even before the minute starts counting down so get in early and start clocking up points.When you destroy any gems in the game they are replaced by new ones that fall down into their place, this can lead to secondary matches which can lead to special gems and multipliers. To make this more likely to happen it is a good idea to try and make matches at the bottom of the grid as more gems will have to move.
