Pool Table Felt

Pool Table Felt can also be known as pool table cloth, billiard felt, pool felt as well as many other slang based names. Pool felt for home tables is a very important part of the table as it affects the speed and path of the ball. A poorly fitted pool felt will not be tight and may have rolls or bumps in it, these are in essence obstacles and will affect the play of the balls giving an unfair game.

The pool table cloth is made from a mixture of nylon and wool. Different types or brands of pool felt can have different mixtures such as 80% wool and 20% nylon or 70% wool and 30% nylon. The use of nylon in the mixture of felt has the purpose of preventing the appearance of wearing in the cloth.

The Worsted style of pool table felt uses no short fiber's in its making, this eliminates the build of of pile on the pool cloth giving an extra smooth surface and faster play.

Cleaning your pool tables felt should be done on a regular basis to prolong its life, after every game if possible. For best results you should use a pool table brush, these can be purchased relatively easy especially on-line. Pool table brushes have bristles of two different lengths, the outside bristles being longer.

• Firstly start by brushing down the bumper railings, this saves dust and debris being pushed onto the clean felt later.
• Starting from the center of the felt brush the dust etc towards the nearest pocket using straight lines, do not brush in a circular motion as this is harmful to the felt.
• Using the nozzle on your vacuum cleaner, suck out all of the dirt and dust in the pockets.
• Polish the wood on the bumper sides if desired.

If the pool felt is looked after and cared for properly it will las far longer and will save you money in the long run.

Pool tables are very prone to spillages from drink especially where alcohol is involved. The Bumper edges provide a great resting area for a beverage but these drinks can be very easily knocked over when taking a shot.

When cleaning up a spill speed is of the up most importance. Only use warm water and absorbent cloths to clean the spill, never use any soap based product as this will in time attract dirt and grime leaving an ugly stain.

• Firstly get your absorbent and dry cloth and place it on top of the spill, the cloth will begin to soak up the spill.
• Dab the area with a colorless cotton cloth to take up the remaining fluid.
• place some warm water onto the spill area and start the same process again, repeat until satisfied that the felt is clean.
